Interdisciplinary Research in Socio-Digital Worlds (IRiS)
This research stream addresses the ways in which dimensions of social and technological worlds interact in economic, political, social, and cultural life. The development of digital services is interacting with broader social change often subsumed in terms such as Information Society, Knowledge Economy and Digital Culture. The complexity of these developments is pushing the demand for interdisciplinary research to address new, hybrid, and established socio-technical forms in cultural context. The socio-digital dynamic interacts with worlds of work and everyday life; in the mediation of identity and culture; in spheres of communication, media and information; and in civil and political life. Areas to address in this field include inequality and participation; economic competiveness and regeneration; inclusion and education; media and cultural activity; health and wellbeing; and political and legal processes. These issues are relevant to policies such as: `Digital Britain´, European Union´s `e2010´, Global Focus on `ICT in Development´. In academic terms the Digital Economy is one of the key priorities of RCUK.
